There seem to be a lot of debate around the true category and name of this crystal. It's also called Lemurian Aquatine Calcite, Blue Striped Calcite, Blue Striped Onyx, Blue Onyx, Aqua Calcite, Oceanite and Ocean Calcite. As true Onyx is a black Agate we quickly eliminated it as being an onyx.
Blue Banded Calcite's deep blue brings insight, helping us see things more clearly and increases our emotional intelligence. It's calming and grounding, soothing away fear, worry, anxiety and stress and reassuring us that everything will turn out for good in the end.

HISTORY, FOLKLORE and OVERVIEW
Blue Banded Calcite is often labeled as Blue Onyx.
Onyx is a parallel banded black Agate. Banded Calcites are often labeled as Onyx due to its banding and the perception that they will fetch higher prices. Onyx however is a harder material,
6.5–7 on the Mohs scale, whereas Calcites are 3 on the Mohs scale making Calcites much more common as they are significantly easier to carve and polish.
A variety of Blue Banded Calcite is Lemurian Aquatine Calcite. Lemurian Aquatine is a more intense turquoise coloured Blue Banded Calcite.
Calcite is a rock forming mineral that is extremely common. It's found throughout the world in sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rocks. Some geologists consider Calcite to be a "ubiquitous mineral", one that is found everywhere.
Calcite is one of the most widely used minerals, used in construction, as an abrasive, agricultural soil treatment, pigment, pharmaceutical and more.
Aragonite will change to calcite within days at temperatures exceeding 300 °C.

FORMATION: Blue Banded Calcite often forms in places of volcanic activity or in areas rich in carbonate rocks through a process of millions of years. Formation starts with silica-rich solutions in cavities or fissures within existing rock formations. As the silica-rich solutions flow into the cavities, cool and solidify, they start crystallisation process. Over time, as additional minerals, such as calcite and iron oxides appear, the colour and banded patterns develop.
