HISTORY and OVERVIEW

'Nickel-Bearing Magnesite' has been sold as' Lemon Chrysoprase' in the crystal industry for many years and still is today. It's name is often shortened to just 'Chrysoprase', which is a different, more translucent apple-green mineral that is mined at the same sites . . . click for more information.

Chrysoprase gets it's name from the Greek words for "golden apple" or "golden leek."

Unlike many crystals that are mined in tonnes, Chrysoprase is found in much smaller quantities.

Lemon Magnesite aka Lemon Chrysoprase  


FORMATION:  Chrysoprase forms in shallow areas of weathered nickel bearing rocks, normally Serpentinite rocks rich in iron and magnesium. It's normally found in cavities and veins that are only a few inches in width.  It can also be found in nodules in the soil above where these rocks can be found.

HARDNESS:   4.5 - 5 on the Mohs scale

CLEANSING:  Our favourite way to cleanse Lemon Chrysoprase is in the Earth, or under the Sun at sunset or sunrise.  

 

CARE:  Lemon Chrysoprase is a soft crystal and easily scratched, protect from:

✂️  Sharp objects
🔆  Sunlight - Direct for long periods of time can cause fading
〰️  Ultrasonic cleaners
💦  Water - avoid submerging or soaking
