Pink Banded Calcite is often called Mangano Calcite, however Mangano Calcite is the name given to a variety of Pink Calcite that doesn't have  banding and is more chalky in texture.  Having said that both have the same properties so it doesn't matter too much to know the correct name, we just like to let you know exactly what you're buying.

HISTORY and OVERVIEW

Calcite is a rock forming mineral that is extremely common.  It's found throughout the world in sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rocks.  Some geologists consider Calcite to be a "ubiquitous mineral", one that is found everywhere. 

Calcite is one of the most widely used minerals, used in construction, as an abrasive, agricultural soil treatment, pigment, pharmaceutical and more.

Aragonite will change to calcite within days at temperatures exceeding 300 °C.
