UV REACTION: Light coloured Sphalerite may fluoresce slightly 

DIAPHANEITY:  Transparent to translucent, opaque when iron-rich

FORMATION: Sphalerite is found in metamorphic, igneous and sedimentary rocks.  It is the most commonly found zinc mineral and the world's most important ore of zinc. Sphalerite can be found where hydrothermal activity or contact metamorphism has brought hot, acidic, zinc-bearing fluids in contact with carbonate rocks. Sphalerite can form in veins, fractures, and cavities, or it can form as mineralisations or replacements of host rocks.
