Unakite, also called Epidotised Granite is a nurturing crystal that contains Epidote (green), and Orthoclase Feldspar (orange/pink).  It is known for increasing our self-esteem and helping us feel confident with who we are.  Unakite attracts love and strong loving relationships (both friendships and romantic relationships) with people that align with your heart and what's important to you and creates harmony within those relationships.

HISTORY
Unakite was named after the Unaka Mountains is western North Carolina, USA, whereit was first discovered.

FACTS

APPEARANCE and VARIATIONS
Green with salmon blotches and white speckles
Can be confused with Epidosite but doesn't contain the salmon coloured feldspar
 
COLOURS:  Unakite is a combination of Epidote (green), and Orthoclase Feldspar (orange -  pink).  It may also contain colourless/milky Quartz, Magnetite, Apatite, Chromite, Ilmenite or Zircon
 
DIAPHANEITY: 

CRYSTAL FAMILY:   Metamorphic rock
 
FORMATION:    Found as pebbles and cobbles from glacial drift.  Formed when granite is altered by hydrothermal fluids, and plagioclase in the granite is transformed into epidote. 
 
CRYSTAL SYSTEM:   Monoclinic
 
CRYSTAL HABIT:  Masses
 
CHEMICAL FORMULA: n{Ca2(Al2Fe3+)[Si2O7][SiO4]O(OH)} p{K(AlSi3O8)}
 
HARDNESS:   6 - 7  on the Mohs scale
 
ORIGIN:   Brazil, China, South Africa, USA
