HISTORY

Ocean Jasper is a mineral, also called Sea Jasper, Orbicular Jasper or Cellular Jasper.  Ocean Jasper is the trade name given to a particular Jasper found only in Madagascar, (although Ocean Jasper often seems to label any Orbicular or colourful Jasper).  

It was first discovered in 1927 on the coast of Madagascar,  it was very difficult to access at the base of a cliff only accessible on a boat at low tide.  Mining began in 2000, as machinery wasn’t able used, this was mined by hand.  However, it had all been removed by 2006, so this is a crystal that will get harder to find on the market and we will see prices increasing.  Ocean Jasper colours and patterns vary dramatically and are very beautiful, our prediction is, like Blue Lace, it will quickly become a very sought-after crystal.  If this is a crystal that you are interested in, we recommend buying pieces now while it’s still affordable.

CLEANSING:  Our favourite way to cleanse Ocean Jasper, as you might imagine is by taking it to the beach, either burying it in some sand or letting sea water run over it.  Fresh running water and sitting it on some earth are also great options.
