HISTORY

The name "opal" comes from the Sanskrit word upala, meaning precious stone.

In Indian mythology, the virgin Goddess of the Rainbow was turned into an opal by the Mother Goddess because she was being chased by suitors Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.
