HISTORY

Moss Agate, also called Mocha Stone, isn't actually an Agate and doesn't contain moss, but a Chalcedony with Dendritic inclusion.  

For centuries Moss Agate has been used as a good luck stone.  In the 18th century, UK farmers and gardeners saw the Moss-like inclusions as a "Stone of Agriculture" and hung Moss Agate on trees and on the horns of oxen to encourage successful harvests.

FACTS

VARIETIES:

Moss Agate is a Chalcedony with Dentritic, formed from weathered volcanic rock.  The moss type patterns are made from impurities, or "inclusions" green hornblende / chlorite.     Traditional Moss Agate comes in greens but more newly discovered Moss Agate can be seen with yellow, brown and red inclusions depending on the levels of oxidation of the iron in the hornblende / chlorite.

CLEANSING:  Our favourite way to cleanse Moss Agate, is by sitting it outside on some earth or even in a pot plant to let any negative energy be drawn back into the earth to cleanse it.
