Desert Rose, also called Sand Rose and Gypsum Flower, is a form of Selenite (Gypsum) that has usually formed in deserts and has grown in the shape of petals due to the presence of sand.  The petal shapes form clusters that resemble Roses, hence the name Desert Rose.      

As a form of Selenite it cleanses and purifies crystals, us, and our environment, attracts peace and protects us from negative comments / abuse.  Desert Rose also strengthens affirmations, heals historical conflict and brings clarity and insight.

HISTORY and OVERVIEW

It is believed that Native American Warriors returned from the spirit life and scattered the roses over the earth so that the home of the spirits would be kept sacred.

FORMATION:  Formed from Gypsum, Barite and Sand.  Desert Rose forms in desert environments, where there is a cycle of occasional rainfall followed by rapid evaporation. Rainfall dissolves some of the Gypsum and as the water evaporates, the dissolved gypsum becomes oversaturated and starts to precipitate out of the solution. When this occurs crystals are formed between layers of sand and slowly, over time, form layers creating the structure that has the appearance of rose petals.
