HISTORY and OVERVIEW

Kunzite, sometimes referred to as Lithionamethyst, was discovered in 1902, and was named after George Frederick Kunz, Mineralogist and Tiffany & Co's chief jeweller at the time.

Kunzite and Hiddenite are both varieties of Spodumene, an important source of lithium. Kunzite is the lilac variety, Hiddenite a pale emerald-green variety and Triphane is yellow. Hiddenite gets its colour from Chromium, whereas Kunzite gets it colour from Manganese.
