Named after it's Zebra-like stripes, Zebra Jasper, is also called Zebra Stone or Zebra Rock.  Known as the "Stone of Being", Zebra Jasper is a crystal of Yin and Yang, balancing, bringing harmony and protecting us. Its helpful to keep us grounded, particularly while doing spiritual work. Zebra Jasper is useful to motivate and lift us up when we're feeling down, bringing us a new zest for life.

HISTORY

Most experts believe that Zebra Jasper is somewhere between 600 million to 1.2 billion years old but only officially discovered in 1924 by Australian geologist Torrington Blatchford.  The damming of the Ord River formed a large body of water known as Lake Argyle, which drowned the deposit along with several others. However, some deposits of Zebra Jasper have remained above the water line where it can be accessed a few weeks of the year between October and November.

APPEARANCE and VARIATIONS

.Grays, white, brown, black, pink or green with strong stripe markings.

COLOURS:

PINK ZEBRA JASPER is formed with mix of jasper and quartz.

GREEN ZEBRA JASPER  is usually formed with Serpentine inclusions.

CRYSTAL FAMILY:    Silicate Mineral - Tectosilicates - Quartz - Chalcedony - Jasper - Zebra Jasper - Pink Zebra Jasper

FORMATION:  Zebra stone forms by depositing very fine silt carried out by running water in small reef outcrops of stratified clay stone or shale  It’s then mined by creating a trench using an excavator. Because of its locality’s wet season, it can only be mined for ten weeks during late October or early November. Otherwise, the zebra stone stays hidden underwater.
