FACTS

APPEARANCE and VARIATIONS

Smokey Quartz gets its colour when natural radiation, emitted from surrounding rock, activates colour centres around aluminum impurities within the crystalline quartz.

Smokey Quartz often forms with Amazonite

COLOURS:  Light yellowish brown, brown, dark brown (almost black), grayish brown, orangish brown, reddish brown.

Morion is a very dark brown to black opaque variety of Smokey Quartz
