Charoite, also called Lilac Stone or Charoite Jade.  It's known as a crystal of transformation, showing us our life purpose.  Its also a great crystal for healing emotions and one of the best crystals for overcoming our fears.  

Charoite is only currently mined in Russia, who control how much can leave this country.  Lack of supply out of Russia and the luxurious beauty of the stone makes this a rare, sought after and expensive crystal.

HISTORY 

Charoite is only found in Russia, it was believed to be named after the Chara River, but as the river is 70 km away from its discovery place, it is now believed to be named after the Russian word chary, meaning magic or charms.  It was discovered in the 1940's but not names until 1978.  It was originally thought to be a fake, dyed purple to give it its striking appearance.

APPEARANCE
Charoite is translucent lavender to purple in colour with a pearly lustre.  It has an unusual swirling, fibrous appearance and sometimes chatoyant which, along with its intense colour, can lead many to believe that it's synthetic or enhanced artificially.   Charoite's silky, fibrous structure results in a shimmery looking polished stone. Suglilites and Charoites can look very similar, the difference between them is that Sugilite doesn't have the swirling patterns or chatoyant effect.   

• Black spots are either Augite or Aegirine
• Green spots are Feldspar
• Translucent areas are Canasite 
• Yellow / Golden spots are Tinaksite 
• White flashes are tiny white Feldspar
