Banded

Banded is the term for the habit of crystals that naturally form in bands.  

Some crystals have "banding", or narrow layers of different colours that have formed due to changes in the composition of the growth liquid, the sedimentary process, or other conditions. For some crystals the banded formation can be caused by a stalactitic habit.

Some examples are:

• Black Striped Agate
• Blue Banded Calcite
• Blue Lace Agate
• Botswana Agate
• Carnelian
• Fluorite
• Green Banded Calcite
• Malachite
• Orange Calcite
• Pink Banded Calcite
• Rhodochrosite
• Zebra Calcite
