Cabochon

A cabochon is a reference to how a crystal or stone (or other material) has been cut (or carved) " en cabochon ".  It has been carved so that the front side is domed and polished and the back side is flat.  This makes cabochon ideal for jewellery and macrame making.  Cabochons (or "cabs") are often cut to be an oval shape, but can also be round, square, rectangular, triangular, teardrop-shaped, or a freeform shape.
